SDS-V triggering
2003-05-29 by Jesper
Hi! First of all - sorry for any cross-posting, I've mailed both AH and the Simmons list. But do help me! ;) I have a Simmons SDS-V and a bunch of pads for it, but normally I trigger the unit using the sequencer inputs with trigger signals from my Kenton Pro-4's Kadi output. Since it responds to signals from 1 up to 15 volts that's no problem 'cause the Kenton unit leaves 5... I'm planning to re-rig the stuff and I have a few issues to solve regarding this... First issue; Maximum trig level on the sequencer inputs is +15 but the maximum of sound is reached at +7 and since I "only" get +5 from the Kenton I'm sure I miss some of the "punch" including the faked rim shot of the snare unit. The pad inputs are sensitive from +5mv to +1.5 volt. I could make a set of cables to use these inputs, but I guess I need some resistors in the signal path to prevent me from damaging the SDS-V. Which value??? (I e bring the 5 volts to 1.5 volt.) Second issue; After studying the manual I've found the following passages. The original cymbal pad has two sensors and stereo out giving the effect of hitting rim vs bell. I should be able to trig each "area" sending trig signals to left resp right channel - right? But which is which, the manual doesn't say. Or have I misunderstood something basic regarding left/right? Summary; In the future I'd like to send 1.5 volt to the pad inputs using the following "paths": 1 bass trig 2 snare trig 3, 4, 5 tom trig 6 cymbal edge trig 7 cymbal bell trig 8 hihat pedal closing 9 hihat trig Can I make myself clearer? ;) electronically yours, jesper http://www.bolina.hsb.se/hsidor/jesper - -- --- ---- ----- ------ ----- ---- --- -- - Electronic Obsession Mailorder http://obsession.svart.nu
