Paint?

Paint?

2003-09-06 by GypsyX

Hello again. In my search for used Simmons drums, I've discovered a bunch of
scratched up and/or discolored trigger pads and very few mint condition trigger
pads. Does anyone have any input as far as repainting these drums? Might I be able
to dismantle the trigger, tape off the logo, and use a glossy spray paint to make a
yellow'ish drum white again? Any input would be appreciated. Thanks!

I repainted my black triggers to match my blue drum set. If the
logos are stickers I would remove them with a razor blade then
replace them with a little glue. If they are the SDS 9 type I would
paint over the plastic and go back and repaint the logo so you get
good coverage with the new color.

I just used a high gloss color spray paint (8 coats with light
sanding between) then a clear high gloss spray (6 coats). They are
beautiful.

It really isn't to hard to take the drums apart. Pull the rubber
carefully from the side out just far enough to get to the staple.
Remove the staple (one on each side) and lift the cover off. You
may have to remove the mounting screw depending on which pad you
have. Then unscrew the jack for the cable and you have just the
plastic cover.

When I put the drums back together I cut a piece of foam carpet
padding to fit just inside the cover. This has helped a lot with
the noise from hitting the pads. When I put the cover back on I did
not staple them. They stay on just fine.

Hope this helps, Yes I can be long winded.
