SDS 7 pad hardware

SDS 7 pad hardware

2008-05-16 by blacklodgeed

Let me know if any of you out there can hook a brother up with a tensioning bolt (?) for a SDS
7 pad. Perhaps that's not the correct term, but it's the chrome t-rod thingy that you use to
tighten the pad on the stand - one of those. If you've got a spare, I'm in the market - name
your price.
Thanks.

Hey Ed ( I assume ? ),

I was trying to find a source for those myself. I had in mind to replace a few old ones that have become slightly corroded. I would think they would call these T-Handle Nuts although I've found nothing after Googling. I'd love to also know if there's a source for these.

Worse case scenario, a coupler nut ( elongated nut ) from a good local hardware store might do the trick as long as the outer hex diameter doesn't interfere. Then you would just need a wrench or nut driver to tighten the pad to the pipe. I just bought some of those ( metric too ! ) for my little moped.

The duct tape just isn't cutting it, Huh ? ; )

Hi These are called "Tension Bolts" and these are standard "Pearl" one's, easy to get in any drum shop, and also very cheap!

Cheers McGhee

Hey McGhee. Thanks for the info. I'm not sure we are all talking about the same part though. I snapped a shot of the part I'm talking about along with another rack clamp part that Simmons used that was manufactured Ultimate Support Systems. If anyone had leads to either of these, please let me know. I know USS hasn't made the DRC-780 clamps for quite some time. Here's a link to the pics:

After a trip to the Pearl dealer, the Pearl UGN-6/2 recommended by McGhee does not
work. The threading is correct, but it's about an inch too short.
And, thanks for posting the picture, Roland - that's exactly what I'm looking for.
So, if anyone has one they'd like to get rid of, I'd gladly paypal you $10.
Thanks.
Ed

[Simmons Drums] Re: SDS 7 pad hardware

After checking against one from an SDS V pad, the ones for the 7 pads are 3/8" longer - 1
15/16".

Re: [Simmons Drums] Re: SDS 7 pad hardware

2008-05-19 by rolandbrenner@netzero.net

Oh, OK. This morning it conked me in the head that I had a pearl tom mount that I use along with the Tama Air-Ride system on my DW snare. It has the Metric equivalent T-handle nut but beefier and a tad shorter. Those Pearl nuts seem to fit great on the SDSV pads, so I'll be replacing the factory ones with these if I can get them reasonably. They look a million times better too.

I hate to say this since I'm sure it will piss a few people off, but I'd look for a better quality pad if I were you. That is if you have the intention of keeping it for your own use. I'd go with the SDS 9's as they are almost the easiest to come by these days and feel best out of all the rubbers ( sorry Trojan !!! ). I personally like the Hexapads the best since they utilize acoustic heads although I realize they are almost impossible to find, especially as a complete kit.

In the meantime, I'll keep my eyes and ears open

- Roland

PS - For the record, I do not have Pearl nuts. While they aren't necessarily huge, I'm still kinda proud.....

After checking against one from an SDS V pad, the ones for the 7 pads are 3/8" longer - 1
15/16".

Hi there,

a few years ago I broke one of these "T"...
A freind of mine knew someone in the mecanic industry (?), & the guy
could do easily a few "T" for me...
they just looked the same !!!
There's probably someone close to you who could do it if you give him
the model.

Good luck...
Patrice.
