I'm just wondering, what are your guy's thoughts on the SDS 2000? who here owns one? I've just noticed that no one ever seems to talk about anything that was released after the sdx on here.

Well... it sounds like this group love Analog stuff...no offence ;- ) I know one being analog addicted here ... But yes Simmons had quite a very strong personality in Digital world too ! What an incredible creative production over the years when we think about it ... From the all analogue to the all Digital ... & for a drummer, so many strong colours to use ... I personnaly own 2 SDS2000 & love them too... It's not so flexible as the analog stuff with all settings (filters , envelopes etc ...) but I like this analog colour & warm of a very strict digital device. for me coming from an SDSV to an SDS7 & using an sDS 2000 is just basically using diffrent colours & some warm or cold sounds... For me the SDS2000 is very cold but has something bouncy in it ... From what Dave told me a long time ago It has been designed to give the "Phil Collins sound" which was the main drummer preoccupation in the late eighties... that "cutting through" Gate sound. It's good to have one in a rack ;- ) it depends of what you wanna do but for example you don't need some big compressors to have the cutting through aspect with the SDS2000... Despite the fact they say that the SDS2000 is using SDX library ...there 's no comparison between both machines...maybe the same samples but even so ... SDX is much more powerful & ballsy... (audio converters & filters again a digital "sample based" device with analog artillery in it ) BUT the SD2000 is easy to use & to carry away ... ;- ) & not ridiculous at all ! a strong personality too... & the design is beautiful no ? after the SDX at Simmons, nothing much happened in term of Sound module ... it was the era of "Simmons Digital", "Simmons Electronic ltd" was dead ... It was then 1989 /90... Just the SDS2000 & the Trixer (same thing with different interface & )..the XRack was a reconditionned SDX (new box for same electronic)... so yes , no much more to say about it ... Hope that helps, Patrice. Le 20 sept. 08 à 07:53, Phill a écrit : > I'm just wondering, what are your guy's thoughts on the SDS 2000? who > here owns one? The members are the analogue geeks, the drummers, the ones finding a battered unit in an abandoned attic etc. > From what Dave told me a long time ago It has been designed to give > the "Phil Collins sound" which was the main drummer preoccupation in > the late eighties... > that "cutting through" Gate sound. Sounds like the correct product to release at that specific time in history! > & the design is beautiful no ? There I beg to differ but that comes down to taste. I think it's awful! > Just the SDS2000 & the Trixer (same thing with different interface > & )..the XRack was a reconditionned SDX (new box for same electronic)... > so yes , no much more to say about it ... So the Trixer and the 2000 are "siblings". I didn't know this. The Trixer at least has a more appealing exterior. :) -- electronically yours, jesper - -- --- ---- ----- ---- --- -- - www.electronic-obsession.se www.myspace.com/machinepop - -- --- ---- ----- ---- --- -- - FRA – arkivera under ”synnerligen misstänkt”
