Portakit Battery

Portakit Battery

2009-03-26 by jimstew37

Hi, all:

My Simmons Portakit recently started to lose its settings memory, so I thought that maybe an internal battery was going bad. Sure enough, there was some minor corrosion going on around the battery. The question is, does anyone here know of a suitable replacement for this battery? A web search doesn't turn up much information. The battery has a white plastic cap on it, with the words "Emmerich" and NC-M110, which are presumably the manufacturer and battery part number.

Thanks,
Jim Stewart

Hi Jim:

From past experience with my SPM, you won't be able to find the exact battery. You just need to find one with the same voltage specs. Just clean all the crud off, and the specs should be visible on the battery. The casing will probably be totally different, so you'll have to find a new way to mount it. For instance on my SPM, the battery I ordered was almost like a AA battery. I then soldered a wire over to my new mount location, the chassis wall.

Good luck.

Thanks. I didn't really expect to find an exact replacement, since it's so old, and NiCd batteries aren't as common these days. But the terminals are kind of strange: two positive and one negative. Is that type of battery used in a lot of Simmons gear, like the SPM? I haven't opened up any of my other programmable Simmons stuff, so I don't know.

Thanks,
Jim
