Simmons Silicon Mallet repair

Simmons Silicon Mallet repair

2009-12-16 by fexus.fexus

Hi,

I'm about to buy a Simmons Silicon Mallet, but it needs some repair. Some pads do not send any signal, or the wrong signal (from another pad), and some pads need to be hit very hard to send any signal.
I think this is a rare instrument and I'd really want to fix it.

Does anybody know if this thing is repairable? Anybody in Stockholm who can help me?

Thanks for any help

//Felix

Hi Felix,

nice that you found your way into here.

You can access all previous messages from the yahoo groups simmons page.
There you should be able to search for other emails with Mallet info.

Good luck !

as far as I know (I might be wrong) the triggers are also based on FSR technology (force sensing resistor foils). The company "Interlink Electronic" still exists. Probably a resource for spare parts:
http://www.interlinkelectronics.com/force_sensors/products/forcesensingresistors/standardsensors.html

I bet there are some owners on the list who can help with the trigger
business but the Mallet is a temperamental unit.

Is it piezo triggers or some other design in that one? Piezos are both
easy to change and quite cheap to replace.

I have the controller (the pads)

Indeed, there are a bunch off FSR sheets in there
Some one over here helped me quit nice with a little article on resistant
glue<?> (does this make sense??) and shooting stables
cleaning the fsr's could help a lot too

The advantage is that the sillicon mallet triggers really accurate
On the other hand, it's extrmely noise, and plays like hell. drumpads don't
feel like real drums, we know that, but a sillicon mallet doesn't feel like
a marimba, it's more a sax where you try to play guitar on. on the other
hand, experimenting with different sticks helps a lot

First of all, thanks to everyone who replied!

Berk, can you explain a little more about cleaning the fsr? I didn't totally get it...
Do you think I can do it myself and do you think it's possible to clean what's inside instead of replacing it?

Re: [Simmons Drums] Simmons Silicon Mallet repair

2009-12-17 by martinzdotse

Hej,
I'll still write in english so everybody will understand.

I asked on 99musik.se about repairing a this Silicon Mallet and a Roland Octapad 2, and got a reply about some foil "pancakes" inside the Roland.

And if Wolfgang is right the Silicon Mallet seems to use the same kind of pickups.

I haven't paid anything yet. First I will make this thing work, then I think I'll get a nice price. :) The owner doesn't use it anymore. Uppenbarligen.
