number of units of each model?

number of units of each model?

2011-08-18 by jesper

Hi list,

Jenna and I spoke in a swedish synth forum about the number of SDS-IV's
produced. This led me to think about the rest too... Does anyone
(Patrice with his connections maybe?) have any reliable figures to
share? Please fill out this list with models, confirmed numbers or
comments, guesses are OK too if well-educated. ;)
I'd like to see a compilation of the highest serials ever seen...

Here are a few assumptions and guesses from your humble moderator:

SDS-I (the original prototype): 1 unit
SDS-II (afaik a slaughtered test): 1 unit
SDS-III (has anyone seen numbers above mine? (98)): 100 units?
SDS-IV (has anyone seen numbers above mine? (19X))? 200 units?
SDS-V (MusicAid, mk1, I think I've read 100): 100 units?
SDS-V (Simmons, mk2, four digits at least): 5000 units?
SDS-6 (I've never owned one and they're scarce): 1000 units?
SDS-7 (four digits at least): 5000 units?
SDS-8 (many! The best seller maybe?): 5000+ units?
SDS-9 (also many, but I see the 8 more often): 5000+ units?
SDS-200
SDS-400
SDS-800
SDS-1000
SDS-2000
SDX
MTX-9
Trixer
TMI
MTM
ADT
EPB
SPM 8:2
ClapTrap (mk1 - a few hundred): 200 units?
ClapTrap (mk2 - a few hundred): 200 units?
ClapTrap (mk3 - thousands): 1000+ units?

etc.

So, archeologists... give us your best guesses but do peak at figures on
your units.

Cool... let's see if anyone can "outbid" that one.

Re: [Simmons Drums] number of units of each model?

2011-08-22 by brian walker

Hi All

70002 will be interesting to see how much it goes for!!!

Mine is complete with pads, programmer and several hand wired modules, not sure if they were factory mods but they are different to the modules installed in my other SDS7

Make me an offer

On second thoughts don't,as a refusal often offends

Re: [Simmons Drums] number of units of each model?

2011-08-23 by Thomas Heckmann

Hey guys,

here's my highest (or lowest numbers) ;-)
And I did beat the highest number with my SDS III...

Best

Thomas

SDS-III (has anyone seen numbers above mine? (98)): 100 units? 0160
SDS-V (MusicAid, mk1, I think I've read 100) 00002
SDS-V 2400
SDS-6 1000 units? 109 I don't think there were more than a few 100s
SDS-7 71226
SDS-8 81697
SDS-9 4426
SDS-800 2347
SDS-1000 in rack
SDS-2000 in rack
SDX 16
MTX-9 in rack
Trixer 1464
MTM 846
EPB 665
SPM 8:2 in rack
ClapTrap (mk1 - a few hundred): 200 units? 384
ClapTrap (mk2 - a few hundred): 200 units? none present on the ouside
ClapTrap (mk3 - thousands): 1000+ units? none present on the ouside

etc.

So, archeologists... give us your best guesses but do peak at figures on
your units.

Well, cool to hear another one has survived. The serials on SDS-III, IV
and Clap Trap (1) comes on a small black and silver sticker, usually
found either front or back. But I guess you've looked. :D

Thanks - list updated here. I'll upload in time.

Odd with the MTM. Both of my quite battered units have clear stickers
with serials on. Maybe they just forgot to put one on yours?!

I opened the MTM to see if I can find the serial number but I found several numbers that looks like a serial number lol
Jesper, Do you know if the sensitivity pots are replaceable? Looks like some custom pots...

If you talk about potentiometers I can imagine they are replaceable. But
I haven't sourced any. When it comes to the knobs it's a whole different
affair unfortunately... :(

Re: [Simmons Drums] number of units of each model?

I did the selftests in the MTM and the values are not the ones that the service manual says and are always the same channels, and it looks like all the channels triggers at the same time, I know many people had this problem but I never saw the solution for that.
the unit have a new backup battery fitted and is in mint condition.
I was wondering is this thing about all the triggers at the same time and the crazy values have to do with the faulty pots or just programing the MTM properly.

This doesn't make sense to me. Are the potentiometer valuses different
from the service manual? Is that what you mean? If so, this is quite
common. The manufacturer change values during the production period.

If all trigger when one pad is struck it's probably some grounding
issue. Try isolating by lifting ground off one channel. If the trigger
crosstalk occurs later it's something else.

I quite recently posted a "how to program the MTM" here. Search the
archives. The manual can be a pain... You shouldn't get crosstalk and
general weirdness just from crappy pots.
