placed the batteries backwards in the sds 1 because i could not find the manual,now the sample sound grainy or distorted.Has anyone had this happen before  and could tell ne what parts to replace as buying schematics are almost impossible to purchase.thanks

Nothing can be damaged when inserting batteries backwards. So, I think, the grainy sound comes from another point: The ZIF.
I do it like this: Insert the EPROM and close the ZIF socket only like half, so that you can move the EPROM from side to side. If you do this a few times, you remove stains and dirt from the ZIFs contacts and from the EPROM legs.

Maybe you haven“t selected  the correct type eprom position.

The zif is a quite crappy construction to begin with. But noone at 
Simmons could imagine the SDS's working 25 years later...

usually grainy sound is from low voltage from power apply.working on tvs, vcr, cds, over the years, I've seen this.could be something else for sure, just my thought this morning, good luck, tw

Thanks to everyone for the help trying to solve the backwards battery situation for my sds 1.I guess its sadly garbage but i will try and place the syndrum in its place or use the shell for a trigger pad .rip with the two mtms thanks

Move to quarantaine

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
