Yes...I have some catching up to do; I got into Neil right around
that time and I remember his fire-engine red SDS8's!
Some other players include: Vinnie Paul/PANTERA {believe it or not);
used a SIMMONS 1000 pad or two to trigger sounds at the beginning of
some of their early songs (i.e. Psycho Holiday--can actually see him
playing on the pad in live video for that song...)
The drummer for TALK TALK was a SIMMONS player...great evidence of
this on their Greatest Hits collection...including some live
tracks...SIMMONS sounded sooooo good live!
Of course...I hope that no one is overlooking Danny Carey {TOOL} and
his SDX rig...live and in the studio!
Let's see...who else?
drummer...THE CARS;
drummer...FLOCK OF SEAGULLS
drummer... PSYCHEDELIC FURS (alternated w/acoustic drums also)
drummer...PRINCE (circa. 1999 album)
Favorites of mine: Kevin Haskins: BAUHAUS/LOVE & ROCKETS--SIMMONS
player; also cEvin Key: SKINNY PUPPY Phew!!! Lots of SIMMONS
enthusiasts!
Of couse (I know he's come up before) Bill Bruford with his '80's
version {the original version} of EARTHWORKS and his SDX!!
Enough for now.
I play SDS8, SDS-1000, SDE.2004-08-24 by Michael Perez
Also, Mik Glaisier of Comsat Angels and Sly Dunbar (a beautiful "sunburst" color SDS 5 set, I saw and heard them live) then with Black Uhuru, but he and bassist Robbie Shakespear also did a lot of studio work. I used my black SDS 5 set with the band The Private Sector from 1983-1985. We never released any records, but did many gigs, a radio interview (I forget where) where our demo was played and did a radio concert for WXPN in Philadelphia.
