MTM mental meltdown

MTM mental meltdown

2016-11-14 by jesper

Hi hexaheads!

After my studio rebuild it is up and running again and I'm slowly
finding the trouble spots. The midi is messing with me, as is often the
case when I get into trouble.

After eliminating as much as possible, this works:
midi master keyboard midi out -> MTM midi in = trig success!

After hooking everything back as it should be:
midi chain is unbroken up to my midi patch which just echoes incoming
midi to seven outputs and also confirms it by LED. The MTM won't trig
anything.

I've switched cables, changed outputs etc. And I have two other MTMs
hooked to the same midipatch and these suxxers work and trig as they should.

If I rewire the test setup, it works again. All the MTM settings are
identical in the MTMs, except for the midi note triggers. But I've moved
these around too just to test... The MTM is running OS 4 and has the
highest serial (800) of my three units.

What am I missing?! *cry of desperation*

Solved it!

Apparently the "thru-service" of one unit wasn't working up to the specs
of the MTM. Early midi can be grumpy... I rearranged the midichain and
it solved the problem.

I expect you're aware of this Jesper, but for those who may not be, the Studiomaster MA36 MIDI Analyzer is an incredibly useful tool for diagnosing MIDI system problems. It's long out of production, but if you can find a used one, you'll never want to be without it again!

Hi jesper : )
Long time no speak.
Considering the age of componants couldn't it be drifting specs giving you some spicy and random moments ?
It won t be a revelation for someone like you that our old MTMs might need a good recaping these days.
Difficult to realise with such units compared to sound units that can have more obvious symptoms.
You might need to open them to check if values are correct.

let us know if you do mate. We're all more or less mtm users.

Cheers
P.
