PSIM-1 Update

2005-04-18 by synthmodules

Hello everyone. I'm back! Okay, here's what was going on... roughly
a month ago, my computer decided it didn't like running Windows XP
anymore. The ASUS A7N8X Deluxe mainboard blew something and in the
progress took out the hard drive partition. Oh, but that wasn't the
half of it...

Okay, I received all the orders by email... and although I had a list
of everyone who ordered one along with check boxes (Excel spreadsheet
thing) that I could check off as I went along... I didn't have all the
shipping addresses printed out or email addresses, or updates to
shipping addresses, etc. So, retrieving my email from the hosed hard
drive was a bit of a priority! Where were all my PSIM-1 notes, files,
schematics, PCB files, design notes, datasheets, etc.? (Not to
mention the 100GB+ of other synth related files I had collected.)
Yep, you guessed it! Can anyone say "data recovery"? Well, it's a
good thing one of my friends actually does that for a living... and I
got *everything* back. Well, actually, I got all the data that was on
the drive copied to a new drive (and was able to import all the emails
back) and copy the files back into the "Project" folder. I didn't
actually lose anything... just the NTFS partiton info itself. So,
this time... I PRINTED everything (at least PSIM-1 orders related
emails) and put it in a binder as well as copying all the PSIM-1
related files to a second drive as a backup! Yes, there were a couple
of you that moved and I *do* have the updated addresses. There are a
few emails I need to reply to still... and I'm trying to get to those.
I had to build a new computer (ASUS board was sent back) and I
figured it was time to build one that was a bit more stable.
Anyway... about that same time, my mail server died due to my not
pulling emails off the server (which has been colocated in Oregon
since 1993) and I may have lost some emails sent in the last few
weeks. But that's a whole other topic for another time and if I
did... I'll try to sort that out as I go along. The priority now is
getting these modules finished.

Those of you that know me or have been to my house know that I have
more than one computer. BUT... I traded those in (or major parts of
them) so I could get the parts for the new computer so I could get the
emails and files back. I spent the last two days I had off (I'm
working roughly 12 to 14+ hours a day, six days a week now and only
have Sundays off) building and installing software on the new
computer. I got it up and running late last night. The new computer
is by no means finished yet, but I got all the important emails and
files back! Life can go on now. So, no computer, no emails, no
updates. Sorry.

Okay, on to the update part... Yes, progress HAS been made since the
last time I gave an update. A few more parts (four transistors, a few
caps, and a couple headers - and the LED boards) and it's time to fire
up the soldering iron! It's getting close folks. I won't repeat the
"thanks for being patient" as that goes without saying and I'm as
tired of saying it as I'm sure you are of hearing it. I've been
trying to work on them a bit here and there, but I *had* to get the
computer working and files back. It will probably be next Sunday
before I can work on the modules again unless I can sneak a few hours
in throughout the week. I'll try to give weekly updates... but there
won't be many more of those as thankfully, I'm getting close to
finishing the PSIM-1's. Believe me, I'm looking forward to the day
when I can say, All the modules have been shipped. It's done."

More later...
