PSIM-1 Rev. 1.0b first impressions

PSIM-1 Rev. 1.0b first impressions

Hello, everyone.

I'm one of Brice's "unofficial beta testers" and just picked up my
unit at the post office this morning. I won't have a chance to power
it up until I get home tonight, but thought I'd give you my first
impressions after a visual inspection.

The front panel of this module has to be one of the best-looking I
ever seen. Some of the lettering is very small, but it is sharp as a
tack and easy to read. I think the lettering and graphics are engraved
and then filled with paint or enamel, so you'd have to do some serious
damage to the panel before anything wears off.

Behind the front panel is a densly populated circuit board containing
the microcontroller, analog convertors and supporting cicuitry. The
LEDs are on a separate board connected to the main board with a ribbon
cable. All the jacks and switches are connected to the board with
flying wires, but the wiring job is so neat that you barely notice
they're there.

Overall, this is one of the nicest-looking modules I've seen. The
build quality and craftsmanship are very high. Brice takes pride in
his work, too; he signed and dated the back of the front panel. I
can't wait to get this module home and see how it performs. I expect
it will perform as well as it looks and will get a lot of use in my
system.

Disclaimer: I don't work for SynthModules and haven't received any
special consideration. I just happened to be one of the ones that took
advantage of Brice's offer of pre-production units. So far, I'm glad
that I did.
