AHMW, the PSIM-1, and all

AHMW, the PSIM-1, and all

2004-03-22 by Michael A. Firman

Hey there,

I just wanted post a few random thoughts in the wake of AHMW and the
receipt of my PSIM-1.

First, AHMW was a blast. I had a great time talking with everyone and particularly
with Brice. I also thought that one of the high points of the gathering was getting
to interface the equipment in various strange ways. I think that next year, everyone
who brings equipment, should put in a little more effort and bring along things like
really long cables and devices that allow their strange noise makers to speak different
languages (I know that, next year, I will this).

Sunday I had to get some sleep and prepare for a gig that night, so I didn't have
a lot of time to play with my new toys (a PSIM-1 and a pair of Wiard JAG modules).
I did however get a chance to load up a couple of the PSIM-1 programs. It will
take me a while just to see what other people have done (I really like Brice's sample
and hold, and Woody's sample and hold/shift register/quantizer) before I start my
own mad scientist routine (but I'll get there, at least I don't have a programming
learning curve to overcome).

The SpeakJet applications I saw/heard were also fantastic. I suspect that I will need
babble box functionality in the near future.

PSIM-1 Update - Has my module shipped yet?

2004-03-23 by Brice D. Hornback

Hello everyone. I'm going to assume that everyone who has ordered a PSIM-1
is already a member of this list. This email is primarily for those folks.
As you all know, I didn't receive all the parts until March 16th. Actually,
the hookup wire didn't arrive until late the 17th and the panel mounting
screws didn't arrive until about ten minutes ago. Anyway... beginning on
the 18th... early in the morning, I started assembling modules to bring with
me to hand deliver to those folks who had already ordered and were attending
AHMW 2004 on the 20th. Those who met me there probably realized I hadn't
had much (any) sleep the previous few days! :-) During the process, I ran
into several snags. Long story short... I'm not going to get ALL the
modules shipped out as quickly as I had hoped... but I *will* get them
shipped out as quickly as I possibly can.

I am currently building the PSIM-1 modules as quickly as I can. I will be
shipping them in the order in which the orders were received. Also, after
buiding modules, writing documentation, burning CD's, and building power
cables non-stop from the morning of the 18th until I left for AHMW 2004 the
morning of the 20th... I simply can't do that again. I had forgotten that I
still needed to update the documentation until early in the morning of the
20th and it wasn't until minutes before leaving for AHMW 2004 that I built
the power cables for those I brought with me. So... I'm doing the best I
can. I'll build a few modules a day and ship a couple times a week.
Without killing myself... that's the best I can do. Since I've returned
from AHMW 2004, I still have not unpacked my gear. I immediately started
working on building more PSIM-1 modules. At some point (soon) I do need to
get my "studio" set back up as that's how I test the modules. I've received
several emails asking if they had been shipped yet. I cannot possibly have
built all the modules ordered by now. However, I am building them and will
be getting them shipped as quickly as I possibly can. As soon as these are
all shipped... watch for the new PSIM add-on SpeakJet module coming soon
too!

Bottom line.... *please be patient with me*. I'm hand-building each and
everyone one of these myself. I'm proud of my work and I believe it shows
in the quality of the modules. There are a bunch of PSIM-1 modules out
there now... so those of you that have them, please feel free to speak up
and attest to the build quality and attention to detail. :-)

Anyway.... that's the update. PSIM-1's are being built. I'm working as
fast as I can. Unfortunatley, there are only so many hours in a day and a
couple of those need to be wasted by sleeping. Fortunately... after a few
more of these... I should be able to build them in my sleep too! ;-) ....
just kidding.

For those of you who haven't ordered yet... I have *very few* remaining
modules available. I'm down to six complete modules and five "partial
modules" for those of you planning on going with Larry's MOTM panel. If you
need, want, or desire a SynthModules PSIM-1 module... order soon or get left
behind.

Take care!

Has my module shipped yet? AND MOTM style panels

Brice, Chill out and slow down a bit. You're no good to us burnt
out. A few days one way or another is not going to make any
difference to anyone. If anyone is applying pressure, lay back
friend. This one-man modular business is hard on a guy as there is
never enough money to farm out any of the work.

If you are planning to get a panel from me and have not already
mailed me about your preference of the panel designs, I need to hear
from you soon. I want to make a decision on the panel layout to be
used very soon. I plan to get back with all those that have rsponded
very soon.

Larry
