I have to chime in here... Gary makes some excellent points! I'd also
add that after meeting Brice last spring and keeping in contact with
him, I can assure you that he's not the kind of guy to sit on his hands
(or build any of the many Blacet kits he has awaiting his attention)
while his PSIM customers are waiting. Brice is a friendly and humble
guy, and I do my best to keep in touch with him.

Being frustrated with the long wait time is understandable, but I can
assure you that the unit is worth the wait :) I am still shocked that
nobody else is making something like the PSIM... I hope to get a second
one someday.

Happy Holidays everyone!

I know how frustrating it is to wait for hand made - small quantity
devices. I wrote a check for $14,000, sent it to Waldorf and waited 9
months for my order to finally be sent, and it arrived in California
with a 250v power supply, which meant that it had to immediately sent
to the shop, scratching the paint....

My Wiard took over a year to complete.... The case took six months to
complete.

So, knowing this, why would anyone travel down this path? I can
easily answer that, from my point of view....

When another citizen in our community creates something very special -
and rare, it is a noble and generous gesture for that person to offer
it to us. These are not stores, but individuals who have taken the
plunge.

In EVERY single one of these projects, (including the Waldorf Wave),
money is lost - not made. The labor rate for the construction of
these little modules amount to way below minimum wage.... Mistakes in
project design is common - this is just one of us, mind you - not a
big company.

I understand your frustrations, but I consider it part of the deal.
I am not putting these guys down. I am thanking them for falling on
their swords for the rest of us.

A few years from now, after Brice has given up on making PSIMs, we,
who have been so fortunate to have gotten one will still be part of a
living community of users and programmers.

When I took notice of the PSIM and the software being written for it,
I was reminded of applications on the Buchla 500 Series at Calarts,
that was powered by a mini computer. But the PSIM has way more
potential, and costs an unrealistically little amount of money for
something that takes hours of Brice's SPARE time to make.

I am not defending the guy - I am just trying to illuminate the plight
of guys like Brice or Peter Grenader or Grant, or any of these great
individuals who have made the mistake of offering these incredible
little gems to us.

In a real way, I hope that I will always be waiting on something from
these guys. And I hope to purchase their precious stuff for as long
as they will endure the misery of fabricating it.

I truly mean no disrespect to anyone on this list that I may have
contradicted in my comments about this.

And really, have a great holiday!

Gary

All true. I agree they are good points. I know because I am one of
these suppliers. I never intended to get into the supply business.
It robs me of most of the time I need to work on my own music and
synth. But, I shared my personal wares on my website and have been
buried ever since with people wanting some of it.

I cannot imagine taking on a project like Brice did. I refused all
but one request to sell what I sold assembled. I ened up regretting
even that one as I was slow delivering. I'm sure this has been a
learning experience for Brice as it was for me in my own stuff. I
think the most important thing is communication. :-)

I already have a great idea for a program, but know nothing about
where to start writing. I guess I am going to learn, or pay someone
more software oriented than I.
