Re: [SynthModules] Display update

I think this would be extremely useful as a programming aide... I am
always using the HIGH/LOW LED commands to indicate what's going on in
the program, to give me some insight into whether a variable is going
out of range, etc.

I've written some programs (as have others) that are actually multiple
programs in series, and you press the STOP button to jump to the next
one. The display could show which of the multiple programs was
currently running... It could display connection info (GATE>IN2) for
a program... or the current values loaded into a sequence...

What about mounting it on a full-width one space rackpanel? Or maybe on
a double frac panel (twice the width of the PSIM itself)? Probably
have a fair amount of space leftover; maybe for some mults, attenuators,
????

This would be as valuable (actually more valuable) for programming the
PSIM than a voltage meter...

After playing with the VFD display on my PSIM I decided I did need a
display on my synth. Mounting it as a module is impractical since it
takes width and you really need to be able to see it so I mounted it
in a small portable enclosure. I power it with +5 volts and can
drive it with MIDI or 38,400 serial (e.g. AUX output using serout
command).

Not sure how practical it is but I thought the programming would be
fun. Now I can display various messages and speech under voltage
control!

I have 150 brand new 8x2 serial backlit LCD display units that I have
planned for use in an upcoming addition to the PSIM-1 lineup. I know that's
not a lot of characters, but it takes up very little panel space and would
still be very useful. I haven't had time to work on programming the LCD
modules. However, if Dave would like one to work with, I'll gladly send him
one along with the datasheet. Dave... interested?

I'm still making a lot of progress on the PSIM-1's and *will* be shipping
the partials beginning this weekend!

Take care,
Brice

Nice work as always Dave. You better watch out doing all this nice
work. Soon everyone will want you to start selling stuff. :-)

Would be happy to work on these - both hardware and software. I'm
just about finished building my display hardware so I'll have some
time. Send me an email off list and we can discuss.

any update?

2005-10-09 by p. hendricks

Hi Brice,
so what's the latest update?
when should we be expecting our modules now?
thanks,
phil

Re: [SynthModules] any update?

2005-10-10 by Brice D. Hornback

Hello. As I mentioned in my last message, I've been pretty sick for the six
weeks or so and actually did end up in the hospital. Anyway, I am
recovering quickly and have already gotten back to work on the modules and
hope to have *all* the remaining modules shipped in the next few weeks. I
am spending every waking moment of time I'm not at work on the modules. A
good friend of mine, Andrew (aka trelane), has been helping me and now that
I'm able to work again... we will be wrapping these up quickly.

Expect to see some shipping updates by the end of the week. There are still
a couple of partials to ship (need tested) and the complete PSIM-1's only
require wiring the panels and testing. It won't take long.

Once these are shipped... there are some VERY exciting things in the works.
Expect to be hearing a lot more from me now that I'm back in action!

I just wanted to take a second to introduce myself to the list. I've
been assisting Brice working on the PSIM-1's. I'd like to take a moment
to clear up a few rumors I've heard regarding their production.

1. Brice has not been (recently) abducted by aliens. The alien angle
on their delay is entirely false.
2. The production has been in no way effected by the war on terror.
Terrorists apparently being music lovers too have not in any way
hindered our efforts at PSIM construction.
3. Brice has been very sick and in and out of the hospital for the last
month and a half (since august 28th), wishes for his good health would
be greatly appreciated as they're not sure what's wrong with him though
hopefully it isn't too major.
4. We have not in fact skipped the country with your money and the
intent of relocating to a tropical locale with beautiful half-dressed
women and no extradition treaties. Unless you count Indiana. I don't.

With that said we're expecting to get 2-3 hours of work in on the
modules tonight. Most of the boards have been finished, but mating them
to the faceplate and testing each board still remains to be done.
