There is a certain logic to the left to right idea but it's too dogmatic. That's sort of how the first synth I ever knew was setup (big Moog at Syracuse University). Being able to reach everything and have reasonable speaker placement is important a factor. My system is two racks wide between two small monitors. There are A series modules at the bottom, one strip of bananafied frac and euro modules in the middle and Serge panels above. To balance patch cord length and access to frequently twiddled controls I try to put audio processing stuff in the center, with oscillators, other CV sources and CV processing surrounding that core. It kind of works out that way in spite of format issues. --- In The_Cyndustries_List@yahoogroups.com, "Cynthia" <cynthia.webster@...> wrote: -snip- Perhaps a Japanese Philosophy might be to make the Final Output subsection in the very center of your system - with all sound generating modules around the outer perimeter and the filters and processors in between? This way all signals come to you in the center. -snip- Some people even use the length of the patchcords in their collection as an indicator of where the modules should be laid out, (is this a thrifty Scottish Philosophy?) -snip-
