What I meant by this, is that when the LIN FM knob is open, the audio bleed from the Dynamic Input signal will continue sounding ~regardless of the FM INDEX VCA setting~. This is intentional, as for some classic FM synthesis recipies you will want to dail-in just the right amount of background radiation right. Simply close, or turn the LIN FM Knob off, (at the fully Counter Clockwise CCW Position) so that now the INDEX VCA will be totally in charge of the Linear FM Modulation. At that point, you should have full effect of the control voltage into the INDEX CV input Jack using the INDEX Knob for Modulation Depth. Listen to the triangle or other waveform type output, but not the MOD OUT, it is just the result of the internal RIng Modulator, (not the core of the Zeroscillator itself) Try this test 1. Put Audio modulation signal from your external VCO into the leftmost (AC) Dynamic FM input and turn it up. 2. Put Control output Signal from Envelope Generator into INDEX CV and turn the VCA Knob up. 3. Be sure that the Bias, Thru-Zero, and Range Switches are all UP and that the other knobs are all turned all the way off... Listen to the Triangle or Sine outputs Should be good ole' FM Synthesis Best Wishes!
