Hello D_ The negative (green) LED will come on when the sum of all linear modulation is negative. That means you must overcome the linear bias, which is positive, with whatever your modulation source is. If you put the bias switch in its center position (off) and apply a sine wave to the linear mod input, you should see both LEDs glow equally brightly as you turn up the modulation. This is because the modulation is now centered at zero volts. The modulation index is now infinite with this setting, a subject few care to discuss. The negative LED will also come on more easily at low bias as opposed to high bias.
