Buchla style Zeroscillator

Buchla style Zeroscillator

Howdy Chris!

Actually, yes we have had some wonderful progress
in this department lately... I believe that this may be
the first time that we've designed a module from the
fiberglass - out, meaning that we did the PC board
layout first and only then created the aluminum front
panel to match the fiberglass.

For this reason I don't have an official sketch this
time because we skipped over that part of the process.
Instead please see a picture of our first front panel
prototype in the Photos section of this user group.
It is not a picture intended for publication as it is
only work in progress but should give a general idea
of what it will ultimately look like.

Thanks for your interest and yes amazingly we got
it all to fit in the standard size boats and in a
regular single width panel unit!

After getting this front panel back and stuffing it,
we realized that we have a little more wiggle room
to move the panel components around into a more
harmonious layout. For the picture I just set some
temporary knobs loosely on top of the front panel
and the text is also only temporary. Shown is
engraved lettering and no company logo, but the
final modules will have the familiar silk-screened
front panel graphics instead. We are updating the
aluminum panel drawings now to match the updated
fiberglass circuit boards.

Since getting this front panel in hand we've
updated the PC Board layouts and placed the official
order for them, so now we wait and rotate our
efforts back to other projects. It's all very
exciting and I should mention that another project
on the back-burner is the making of a blue Wiard
300 format ~dual~ Zeroscillator too!

This ZOe is an exceedingly limited run, and will
probably sell out quickly. I do not see this as a
regular production item.

There is a jack labeled "Bob" and another jack
labeled "Don"... Can anyone guess the meaning
of this? :)

Best Wishes!

Cynthia

What is the price?

How would I order one?

While staring at the ZOe proto, I notice one problem. If the Sync and
Time Reverse inputs are only going to have one jack (and I don't see
how you could possibly fit any more jacks on that front panel), they
should probably be 1/8" and not bananas.

Hi Chris!

You’re one very smart fellow, good for you!

(Yes, we caught this early on and have already changed it to a miniphone jack.)

We’ve actually swapped the positions of the Synch knob and the sync jack (now miniphone)

As I thought the knob right under the Sawtooth output jacks was a bit cramped. Instead there is a

Triangle of jacks (Ramp, Saw, Synch) in that location now, with the knob further below.

We also moved the LEDs out further from the center and lowered the big Tuning knob a bit to get it

Away from the upper toggle switch in the center. We have a hidden 50-pin connector running horizontally

Under the big knob so we’ve pushed our southern limitation on the knob location further down so the tuning knob

Is no so cramped as show in that first prototype. The graphics will ultimately be silkscreened instead of the

Engraved lettering (temporary) shown and for example the words Ramp and Saw will be replaced by a pair

Of little “devil horns” in the form of Sawtooth waveform icons instead of words. (ramp up, ramp down)

Probably a big printed circle on the front panels around the big tuning knob, etc.

Please keep those observations coming, the more comments the better!

Cynthia
