Re: Cyndustries Tabla

Hi, I've had the Tabla module for a few years now. There isn't much to it. The yellow jack is the output and you can process it like any audio source. One item I noticed is that you need to back off on the volume if you want the output to be undistorted. The distortion is OK but not always desired. Operation is pretty simple, press the start/ stop button and select any tal. Push Alt to select the tals on the bottom of the keys. Inc and Dec will change to the next or previous Tal. On my unit, I get an amusing "squech" whenever the Tal is changed. I'm not sure if that is normal or not but it is amusing nonetheless and add to the quirkiness of the module. Of course, the real fun comes when you apply control voltages to the tempo and pitch inputs to change these under control of your modular synth. The enable input allows you to control the start/stop of the module with a gate signal. Sending a pulse to the Increment or Decrement inputs will increment or decrement the tal just like the buttons. The Sum, Layla, Alt, and Go outputs are gates from specific drums in the Tal so you can use these to trigger other sounds on your modular. Like many modules, you really just need to explore the inputs and outputs a bit. It is pretty hard to hurt the module unless you are sending voltages from different manufacturers that might be incompatible or you try to sum multiple outputs into one input without a mixer. Eric
