Any of you use a portable case ? I see the SKB19-P12 Mixer case on the MOTM website and it looks ideal. So, will the Cyndustries modules (including power supply) fit in such a case ? Thanks

I have one of these cases for my Fenix. I don't know if it would work for Cyndustries or modcan items offhand but these are the questions you need to answer to find out: 1. The depth of the case is 5 inches so you need to make sure the modules are smaller than that in depth. Most of them are in my experience with the ZO being the most chock full of analog board goodness so I'm not sure about that one. 2. You need some 19" wide rack/rail system to mount them. The Cyn sixpaks are 7" deep so they won't work in that case. Modcan makes a "Mounting Chassis" for A system modules but the one with the rack ears claims to be 9" deep so that won't work: http://modcan.com/mount.html The Modcan system does come with a PS and buss system. The Cyn Sixpaks have a buss system and you can use any of their module power supplies as needed. Two suggestions outside of the SKB mixer case: A shallow "normal" table type SKB or other case. That should work well with the Modcan chasis. The Cyn sixpaks can be screwed together to form one long unit. That wouldn't be 19" but if you have the means to make your own frame you can mount the complete set of sixpaks into that and have a "portable" case. I have six sixpaks screwed together as my sole Cyn/Modcan case (one sixpak being the large PS) and it's too heavy for a reasonable portable system but 2-3 sixpaks might work quite well. You can mount the PS and run the buss cables internally through the sixpaks and you'll have all the wires hidden inside the system so the outside will be only the modules on the face and the 7" deep case. Hope that helps some. --- In The_Cyndustries_List@yahoogroups.com, "Richard M." <ramechling2005@...> wrote:

Thanks > A follow-up to the last post is that you can of course build a portable system case without using SixPacs. My first was an old US Army box from a surplus store. It was 18" x18" and was great for two rows of (8) modules each, however because it was made 3/4 inch plywood, and had thick particle board slabs inside to bolt the modules to - it weighed a ton! No fun to lug it around everywhere. The price was right though, I think I only paid ten-dollars for the whole case! (shown to my right). http://www.cyndustries.com/gallery.cfm?PageNum_Gallery=18 Pretty indestructable! (that's when I switched to lighter structural almuminum, and if using SixPacs internally in a case, then not only does the plywood for the case suudenly shrink in weight and thickness, (1//4 inch or 3/8 instead of 3/4 inch) but also the case builders don't need to be rocket scientists to make everything fit perfectly, (the precision (and most of the structural strength is already built into the SixPacs)). Hope this helps ya' Cynthia

I seem to recall their being a maximum depth of about five inches on those pop-up mixer style cases from SKB, perhaps the Gator brand equivalent is a bit deeper? Our SixPacs are 7" inches deep (168 mm or so?) A different approach would be to bolt two or four SixPacs together and then take them to a case company to put a thin wooden case around the SixPacs and to add a latching lid and carrying handle, etc. Here are a couple of examples... http://www.cyndustries.com/gallery.cfm?PageNum_Gallery=20 http://www.cyndustries.com/gallery.cfm?PageNum_Gallery=19 http://www.cyndustries.com/gallery.cfm?PageNum_Gallery=6 If designing a custom case like that, you could design it with some extra room in either the back or the bottom to accommodate a reverb tank or two and power supply. I always recommend adding 1" inch (24mm) of extra case around the front to protect all of the knobs if the synth should ever fall over or be placed face down for any reason. If you add a tiny bit extra to that, or design a bit of additional space in a removable front lid, then you can transport the rig with your patches still connected - so it's all ready to go when you get where you're going! Happy Trails! Cynthia Richard M. wrote:
