i used to have a gadget i called the Flying Saucer that had about 13 LDRs 
which plugged into an interface module to scale and invert the voltages and 
generate gate signals. usually i would place it on the floor in front of me, 
with a few lights behind me and play it by waving my body around in front of 
it whileplaying my bass guitar. i could get all kinds of sweeping synth 
noises...
