Akai S1000 / S1100 samplers

So I've got 3 system disks, 2 of them are home made and 1 official one so don't go on about the disks.

I can't remember what drive was in their first but I have-

mistumi d359tv 5v

and 2 x mitsumi d359t5 5v

one of the latter ones worked twice (power on/off tests) and then when I went to screw the cradle on, and the cradle on the base. fired it up, and to my anger it failed. it still said *insert s2000 system disk* I went mad.

I've blown on the 34 ribbin sockets, and the 34 socket on the akai its selt, incase there was dust but that didn't work.

What am I doing wrong? stupid akai arrrgh! also, what drive was the original when it came out? was it a mitsumi?
