Akai S1000 / S1100 samplers

Hi,
I would like to know if an Akai S1000 HD mother board can be replaced with a mother board from a non HD unit and will it still support the HD ? 
I have an HD unit that will not accept 8MB memory cards , I also have access to the a non HD unit mother board that does support 8MB cards. I was thinking rather then having to mod my mother board for 8MB , maybe I could just change the mother boards ? If so, will I lose the internal HD support ?
