Just look on ebay for S-1000 lcd backlight... Guy here in Toronto sells them for around $30... Very easy fix for DIY...

whoops overlooked that it is actually powering on. sounds like maybe the LCD inverter board would be a good place to start. unfortunately i'm not sure how you'll go about replacing or servicing this.
