Hi there, Well, I'm actually trying to do exactly that, use my S1100 as a Synth. I'm grabbing some simple (and short!) wave samples from some nice freeware soundfonts (Vintage Dreams Waves for instance) and layering a wave with an inverted version of the same in order to use the low pass filter on the Akai as actually a band pass filter (a hint I found on the net). Oh, you do need to care 'bout phase sample coherence for that! The harder stuff I'm trying is using short samples created on csound using diverse synthesis methods for the same purpose, granular synthesis sound 're awesome. ... I mean, a low budget 16 poly analog synth thingy is not that bad on the end, isn't it? Too bad the filters have no MIDI realtime modulation, just LFO/velocity/EG. Standard use for an S1000 anyway is as a sample drum playing machine, nowadays instrumental samples are way to heavy and not actually designed to fit on a low memory sampler. You could always get one of this heavier samples and resample it on 22khz for instance to get some low-fi effects :) cheers and good luck! Seba. > whats up audiophiles? Long time akai user and lover.
