Hi all I too had a problem with a dim display on my 2nd hand akai s1000 and rate www.backlights.co.uk very highly. Easy to install if your handy with a soldering iron. I currently am in the process of finishing off my sample packed scsi hard drive and am wondering if anyone might be interested in formated akai hard drives with or without samples on them. Ive recently bought 15 scsi drives (1.2 to 3.4 gig) and these are perfect for use with s1000 or s1100. If i get enough interest ill work out a price. What kinda setups do you all have? Ive been experimenting with my s1000 and its scsi capabilitys and have now a system where i have an external cd rom drive, connected to the s1000 and to a pc scsi card. From here the pc holds my scsi hard drive which can be accessed by my s1000. Just incase anyone is stuck with transferring samples from pc to scsi, i found the only software to do it is recycle version 1.6. Unfortunaty it will only run on windows 3.1 to 98 but transfers so fast compared to midi. Here is a good site that explains s series and scsi - http://akaiscsifaq.digidude.net/akaipage.htm Anyways keep up the good work with this group i think its great, if i find any more tips ill post them.
