Memory Upgrade, Whine After OS Upgrade

Memory Upgrade, Whine After OS Upgrade

2011-02-23 by Mike Schaffer

I had new memory installed my S1000, and I'm having some issues.

When I turn the machine on, it doesn't recognize that there is more memory unless I reload a new operating (4.4) system from the floppy.

Problem is:

1. When the new operating system is installed, I immediately hear a "whining" sound that doesn't go away until I turn the machine off.
2. When I restart the machine, it goes back to the old OS (1.10) but there is not whine.

So any idea what's going on here? Why would I hear a whine when I load the new OS? How do I get it to recognize the memory without having to reload the OS every time I turn the machine on?

Thanks!

This point is easy: Burn OS 4.4 eproms and install them in your S1000. So the sampler comes up with OS 4.4.
Does the whining sound come out of the audio output or could it be noise from the inverter for the LCD backlight?
