flickering display

flickering display

2005-02-24 by phase0

greetings -

i have an s1000 whose displays flickers on and off after
a few minutes (those first few minutes are really nice). the display
makes a faint high pitched tone that turns on and off in sync w/ the
flicker.

does anyone have any experience w/ this type of problem?

i read the retroillumination article on
http://akaiscsifaq.digidude.net/. i'm afraid that the problem could
be the "electrical generator" - not the back light itself and
wouldn't want to waste money repairing the back light if that won't
fix the problem.

am i worrying too much and is this a common problem w/ a bad back
light?

any help or guidance would be useful in deciding what to do w/ the
unit. for now a lamp placed directly on the display helps.

thanks
je

Hi,

Seems that you have a problem with the inverter. It is a small
electronic circuit left of the lcd, which gives the background light
the necessary high voltage. This piece module normally makes an
annoying noice. If you have a minimum knowledge or electronics, you
can buy such an inverter from backlights.co.uk (look in the links
section) and install it. The problem is that the replacement modules
do not have the same size. Otherwise, find a repair service.

Rgds,

Frank

Thanks Frank,

I do have some electronic training and experience. But if the
replacement modules don't fit what needs to be done?

solder some wires and glue the module somewhere else; thats easier
than drilling new holes in the pcb

Move to quarantaine

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
