Internal CompactFlash reader for S1100

Internal CompactFlash reader for S1100

2007-05-27 by alaskahighway

i'm after an internal scsi compactflash reader/writer for my s1100 - if
anyone comes across one please let me know! i've got one eye on ebay
& --nearly-- bought one a while ago for a whopping $5 but didnt as i
wasn't going to use my s1000pb live.

but now i have the s1100 it'll be used live (with an sh201, sy77 &
dmpro) and using 512mb compact flash cards means a) my whole set is on
one card & b) no moving parts!!!

thanks

$5 sounds suspiciously cheap for a *SCSI* CF card reader. Are you sure
it wasn't an IDE one? You can usually get a CF-to-IDE adaptor that you
can then use with an IDE-to-SCSI bridge (not sure what they would cost
in the US, but about 40GBP so maybe $90 or so?)

if people put stuff on ebay to end at stupid times, then a bidding war doesn't start. this reader ended at 2am in a thursday morning!! it was definitely scsi, and definitely $5!

i've seen 2 go since for around $40 so $5 was a bargain...

hi there
I just recently installed a cf-to-ide adapter together with an IDE-to-SCSI adapter in my S1100. The cf reader powers up but I get a message "waiting for hard disk read... SKIP". I'm a bit puzzled if I have some of the jumper settings incorrect or whether I have an incorrectly formatted cf disk.
does anyone have a tip to help me get started here?
thanks for the help!
aaron

Hi,
Have you had any luck?

I will be trying one of these with my S1100:

The guy mentions something about "luns" and SCSI ID numbers in that older samplers like Akai can not use luns to identify which slot on the card reader to use.
So if you have a card reader that has multiple slots for different cards the Akai will not be able to work out which slot to look at to find a disk (CF Card), reagrdless
of SCSI ID settings. I have no idea what luns is all about, but for the Akai you need a way of making your card reader default to the CF card slot without the sampler
having to do anything.

I'm still looking for an external box to house my reader in, but then I should be able to test this reader out.

Cheers
