Problems with SCSI on S1000KB.

Problems with SCSI on S1000KB.

2008-03-19 by saerling

Hi all.

I recently bought an S1000KB fully expanded with 32MB, digi in/out
and SCSI.

I hooked it up to my old Apple CDROM drive and inserted one of my
Akai CDROM's into it.

The Akai CAN read the content on the CDROM, but whenever I try to
load anything it stops as soon as it tries to load a sample (it gives
me a Hard Disk Error message). It seems to load the empty presets
fine.

Am I setting it up wrong ? Am I supposed to do anything special in
the OS ?

I have terminated the CDROM drive in the SCSI chain, and I've set the
Hard Drive ID to the same as the CDROM drive.

HELP !! :-)

If you've got both the CDROM and the hard drive connected, this probably
isn't what you want.

Only the devices at the ends of the SCSI chain should be terminated, and
every device should have a different SCSI ID set.

Sometimes, leaving one end unterminated makes it work. I don't know
why. SCSI is a bit like that.

Hi there – thank you for the speedy reply.

I don’t have an internal drive fitted.

Am I wrong in setting the Hard Drive SCSI ID to the ID of my CDROM drive in the HDSK menu ?

How else am I going to do it ? I don’t think the V2 manual explains about SCSI very well J

Thanks;

Kenneth

In that case yes, you do want to tell the sampler to use the SCSI ID of
the CDROM.

As a matter of interest, have you tried it with a SCSI hard disc?

Hi Gordon.

No – I haven’t had the chance yet.

BUT ! Actually it helped removing my SCSI terminator … Weird world of SCSI.

I can’t remember all the times I’ve tried out different SCSI ID’s and terminator settings back in the day using my Emu samplers.

I had almost forgotten how troublesome it could be J

Thanks;

Kenneth
