When leaving the playlist edit (see user manual page 20) and pattern edit (p.30) modes, you are prompted to select whether you want to save, go back to edit some more, or lose the edit. Selection is made using one of the softkeys F1 to F3; and it all happens transparently when in playback. Chains are automatically saved, although this is lost if you switch banks.
