OK, go into pattern edit. The upper knob mode will default to velocity, and
the step mode to gate.
Press the upper knob mode key 3 times. The mode will advance through length
and delay to AUX - as shown by the LEDs.
When you're in AUX mode, the step keys will turn the auxes on or off for
each step. Pressing the step mode key cycles through auxes A, B, C and D -
but just stick with aux A for now.

To assign the 'set norm tbase' event to aux A, hold FUNC and press the step
mode key. The display will show the current function assigned to aux A -
probably CC #1 if you started with a blanked memory.
Press the PAGE key - this toggles between the CCs and the events.
Now turn the DATA knob slowly, until you see 'set norm tbase' on the top
line of the display, and press F1 (enter) to select.

Now turn the upper knob on step 1 to a value of 0. This will set tbase to 32
from step 1 onwards (make sure step 1 LED is on).
If you want to set a different tbase on every step, turn on all the switches
so every LED is lit, and edit the values on all the upper knobs.

Does that make sense ?

I've got a BBC UMI midi system somewhere I didn't get a manual with, and I
don't think I ever got a single note-on out of it...

Cheers,
