Re: P3 received : )..blast off!

2004-11-24 by darkstr1746@comcast.net

Thanks for the links Colin, i'll check them out after I've torn the last of my hair out. : )
I got the P3 to work this morning. How i did that i don't know. I did figure out the Velocity/note length thing and my midi channel assign ( i think ). I still can't figure out how to get into the "gate/tie/skip" thing. When the lights are on beside those fuctions, how do i access them? rotary encoders?
But i must say that once i got the thing going and put some good note values in, i came up with something right away that was cool enough to record. So yeah, i'm having fun, even if guardedly. And i even figured out how to save it. But where i saved it to i'm not sure. It appears to be on track one of bank one. But that's the thing i'm really having trouble with......track vs. part vs. pattern. Track and pattern are under the same button? ( 1-8 ).....part is under 8-16?. I know it's right there in the manual and i'v read it over and over, but i'm just not picking up on something. But at least i'v got results. : )..... now to figure out HOW i got results. At this rate it will be months before i figure out how to string patterns together so that they appear on the same track...or are they supposed too?.. or is it set up so that a pattern points to another on a different track?? Right now i'm just having loads of fun changing the scale type and pattern length. I'm turning steps off manualy at the moment, but there is a way to automate this right?.... sorry for all the stupid questions. I wasn't kidding when i said i was dense. Voltages i can deal with...... Midi...... ?..i'm a disaster because i can't visualize it .LOL just keep those clues and hints comin' folks.. : )
kind regards
john duval

P3 does come empty. It's not some Romahorg Groovebox, providing you
with1000 patterns of preset 'inspiration' ;-)
I may load over-writable default patterns at some point, to go with
tutorials. Check out the getting started guide:
http://www.p3sequencer.com/p3-getting-started.txt
and Paul Nagle's P3UserGuide.pdf in the Yahoo files section:

(watch for wrap)
Don't be afraid to ask questions.

Cheers,
Colin f
