Each time you try something that may have fixed the RAM, be sure to do the
memory wipe thing at power-on. Bad values might still cause problems once
the memory is working.

That's encouraging. The LED colours are held in the external RAM.
If they are doing what they are supposed to, then at least some of the RAM
must be working. Broken address lines might still cause system failure after
this though.

If you're getting that consistently, the flash memory holding the bootloader
could be corrupt. If it is just the string data that is corrupt, that can be
fixed with a special 'main program' firmware update I have that will
re-write the bootloader code.
If you can't get a firmware update in there successfully, we have a RTB
problem I'm afraid.

I think it might be easier to get to the bottom of things if we can
communicate more immediately than via email.
If you're going to be about tonight, we could try using the Yahoo chat thing
to see if I can work out what's going on with your board.
