At the moment, midi input only allows external sync, real-time record and
arpeggio capture of notes.

Remote control by midi controller is on the TBI list.
I won't try to sell you something that doesn't exist yet, but I don't see
any technical reason why it won't be implemented in the near future. A
number of users have already asked for it.
Keep an eye on the group for updates.
