There's a bunch of ways to accomplish this, and searching google should turn up a variety of options. I typically run the switch contact through a series capacitor (HPF), then to a pull-up or pull-down resistor (depending on if your switch shorts to ground or V+). Then I use schmitt trigger gates to clean up the pulse. Hope this helps a bit... your project sounds interesting. Any chance you'll put a turntable-style pitch fader on there? I would love to be able to adjust the tempo of my equipment like that... and maybe a "push" and "pull" button to nudge the beat forward and backwards to line it up with another song, just as a dj would do.
