That's one of the main reasons I didn't use encoders on P3. If the encoders had more than 20 or 30 steps per revolution, acceleration alogrithms wouldn't be needed, but encoders like that cost big bucks. The infinite pots Alesis used on the Ion seem like the best alternative, but I haven't found a supplier of those to try them.
