the ER1 has a great and very "electronic" sound, its not an 808/909 clone but has its own thing - I'd say it sounded plastic rather than metal, definitely not wooden. For me it just seems to work really well with the analogue synths i use it with. Its not the most kciking aggresive sound so an analogue compressor and a bit of EQ can beef it up a lot if you need that
