Under v4, bars are allocated dynamically to patterns as you create them.
There are two groups of 192 bars - one group for even numbered banks, the
other for odd numbered banks.
Bars are also temporarily allocated for the edit buffer in pattern edit
mode.
"No space to edit" means there are not enough free bars left to create an
edit buffer.

You must either have used all available bar storage in your patterns, or
there may be some 'lost' bars.
Earlier betas had a few issues that caused loss of bars, though I think most
of those are gone now.
One remaining problem is that if you turn off P3 while in pattern edit mode,
the edit buffer is not deallocated.

Anwyay, when you press FUNC+track in play mode, the number of free bars is
shown at the bottom right of the display.
This number will be different if you are in an odd or even numbered bank.

To determine if you have 'lost' bars, you can dump the contents of memory
via sysex, re-initialise the memory (F1+7 at power-on), the reload the sysex
dump.
If after doing that there are no extra bars in the 'free' count, then you
have just filled the available storage.
The next beta will have a pattern delete function, which may help clear
things up.
