You can clean out pots with isopropyl alcohol, though that will also wash out the lubricant, so you really need to re-grease them afterwards. To be honest, I find the process of cleaning out a pot and re-lubricating it is usually more time consuming and less satisfactory than just de-soldering the pot and putting a new one in.
