I guess it could be > done DIY too. We produced the first run of break-out boxes in quarter-inch and 3.5mm formats. Having the enclosures made for two different sockets sizes added to the cost of both, and we had trouble sourcing sufficient quantity of 3.5mm sockets. There's no size advantage when using the same spacing for 3.5mm sockets, so the alternative approach of using 3.5mm to 6.35mm mono adaptors in a quarter-inch BOB makes more sense. It seems more mechanically sound too - the 3.5mm sockets feel a lot less robust than quarter-inches to me. I'm much more confident of the long term reliability of the larger sockets. So, the plan is to stick to quarter-inch for units we produce, with 3.5mm adaptors available if required. A DIY 3.5mm PCB option will be available, if there is demand.
