Keith I had a thought which I hope doesn't mean you've wasted your time
messing about with the opto-isolator, but you don't have the P3 wired up
to your PC, and MidiOx set up so that P3's response to the firmware
sysex block is being fed back through to it's input again ? I've just
checked out how that will respond, and it programs correctly, but does
give a BAD DATA! warning when it sees it's own handshake come back (it's
not expecting to shake hands with itself...)
I think you would probably notice the midi loop in this case - unless
you're only connecting P3 up to the PC when flashing.

Hmm... Thank you Olimex. Sorry about that.
I'd check it with a multimeter to confirm if it is a short.
I'm told by various people that the makers of the second run do a lot
better on quality.
