Just to confirm, you are using FUNC+PAGE at startup and selecting 'Flash',
not doing FUNC+PAGE in playmode, then PAGEing round to Sysex and selecting
'recv' ?
Firmware update is done from firmware update mode, which is a subroutine of
the bootloader - it's not part of the main code.

If you are doing a 'flash' and it's still not working, I'll see if my mate
with the Mac (we're still friends depsite it ;-) has got a midi interface I
can try out...
