This sounds very cool to me. In addition I still like to have the
"treat continue as start" behaviour, if possible.

It wouldn't use an existing part - it would look like there were no part
selected at all.

A user config option for 'null part on start' would do the same thing I
think. You might well not want to lose the current part/chain selection
though, so I'll look at whether I can set the current part to 'null', while
retaining the 'real' part selection, so that pressing RUN (while already
playing the null part) would return to selected real part or chain.
I have a feeling that this can be implemented such that it would behave just
as you expect suspended start would behave.
