The case

The case

2004-06-01 by MAG

it seems to be a problem to get a nice case.

actually I'm waiting for my pcb's to build my own P3 sequencer.
I'm working as a machine designer on a 3d cad, so it should be no problem
to design a case and print technical drawings.

the main question is how should the case look like, which main features
should it have? 19" mountable, internal power supply, max. price, and and and.....

please tell me.
I'm also thinking for some extra features like joysticks and a doepfer midi unit
in the same case.

thanx for your ideas.

thru port on P3 <-> midiclock

2004-06-01 by scd

Hey Colin,

Does the P3 filter out midiclock signals that come in on the thru port?

Regards, Boele

I think my question can raise a question:
What I mean is, when midiclock is coming in on the in-port of the P3, will
it go out on the thru-port? I think not, but I need to know if that is
intentional or not :-))

Tell me about it ;-)
For those of you still waiting on the Hammond cases, CNC Steve is hoping
to get them done soon, but his day job in academia is keeping him busy
(it being exam season).
Thanks for your continued patience.

Really ..? The Autocad expert I have in mind for doing the 'proper' P3
cases is more used to doing buildings...
Maybe I can enlist your help if the case design ends up 3 storeys tall,
with a sandstone facing ;-)

The proper P3 case (the one I'm going to have manufactured by a
sheetmetal engineering firm) will either have a pair of wooden end
cheeks and sit on a desk or table top, or it will have L-shaped rack
mount brackets to fit in a 19" rack.
The connections on the back will be recessed to suit either mode of use.
The power supply will not be internal, for the simple reason that it
involves a lot of extra CE compliance effort.
It may be possible to find a ready-made power supply unit that can be
fitted inside the case such that it is effectively an internal supply
(i.e. 3 pin mains cable plugs into back of P3), but this depends on
finding a suitable, CE marked, enclosed power supply that will fit
inside the case, and have its power connector accessible through a hole
in the back.

Cheers,

So, I'm still waiting for the pcb's, for to measure them out and get the right socket sizes.
(or do you have any sketches already?)
as soon as i get them, I'll make some drawings and I'll put them
onto the internet (for a discussion or so.......)

It would be nice to manufature more than one piece, the price dramaticly decreases
when you can order a series of sheet metal for cnc lasering.

the thing with the L-shaped rack mount sounds nice but why do u want some wood?
metal L things on wood just hurts......

i'm thinking about a little LED lamp, is this useful?

N.B.
the cases on my website are 3d modeled with inventor8. with this software its also
possible to draw the cabletrees!
