P4 ? I feel myself tricked

2004-07-07 by Hans Greuber

Hi;

What features will have the P4 not incluided in the P3?

I feel myself a bit tricked with my P3 , is like when you buy the gti
edition and the next month the gti 16 v comes up

I hope I´m not

Its not an issue for me.

Whatever you buy itll be superseded. Just cause there's a 300ghz machine on
the horizon, that doesn't mean that your humble p2 266 doesn't do what it
used to.

And, besides, from what i understand, the p4 will be an addition, rather
then a direct replacement, right?

But even still, it wouldn't concern me if it was a direct replacement (with
more ROM! ;)

Cheers, Julian

(whose web server still uses his p2 266.... ; )

When I play the P3 and use it in mono-mode, I hear clicks at
every note! Colin, you promised to fix this bug like 3
years ago! And I still think a blue P3 sounds better!

<kidding!> :))

Hi,

Thats unrealistic, Ever buy anything?
I mean a television, a car, mobile phone, synth ?

everything gets replaced by newer and better models eventually.
Its part of what keeps this kind of thing 'fresh'.

Huh? I don't think you did get my point Paul :-)))

That's exactly what I meant! :-)
But the piece of gear you buy (at least I do) is because of it's
features. I am not looking at a P4 thinking... Tssss.... Colin should
have warned me to wait buying the P3 because the P4 (that is probably
not even on the drawingtable) can do so much more...

Hmmm... We _are_ on the Waldorf list! :)

If you bought a P3 because you liked it's features, then the P3 will
continue to serve up those features for as long as you own it.

I used to be PO'd about buying "A" only to see "A.2" show up a week later,
but I kinda' got over it. I mean, I have gear here from the 70's ('68
even!) and it's still going strong.

My most recent run-in with this was SoundArt announcing the Chameleon MK II
less than a week after getting my MK I (and not even being able to fire it
up yet!). But, the Chameleon is the machine that I'd been wanting for
YEARS, I got it for a great price, and I'm damn happy that I did.

...but I'll admit hat I also pre-ordered a Chameleon MK II yesterday. :)

I'm certainly not "mad" at SoundArt for continuing to set their sights
higher and higher, an I know that I'll want some of the features in the MK
II. Given that it's almost a year out from shipping, I'm banking on having
had a lot of fun with the MK I and looking forward to _adding_ a MK II
along side of it.

It's the same with the P4. Kudos to Colin for continuing to do dev work on
his visions. I'll probably add a P4 to the pile - and I haven't even built
my P3 yet (though it's been here in the box for MONTHS)!

I once had a friend who wanted a good graphics card, so he waited... and
waited....
A year later, he still had not bought one, as "next week another one was
comming out that was even better!"

Very true. He was quite a good player, and he and his band did some cool
tunes.
