3U Rackmount Doepfer style P3

2005-03-03 by allanjhall

Hi all,

I've finally finished building my P3, and I've uploaded some pix of
it to Yahoo group photo's area (named AllansP3).

I've mounted it into an 84HP 3U high doepfer / Analogue Systems rack
case to match the rest of my modular system, and it has blue &
yellow led's and a blue LCD panel. I had to make two of the pcb's
myself (step switch board and function switch board) as smaller
versions of originals so that they would fit into the smaller format
case, also to allow two lines of 3mm led's,(one row of blue and one
row of yellow), instead of the standard 5mm multicolour led. Front
panel was made buy Shaeffer - drilled only, and I designed front
panel legends in Illustrator then printed them to Lazertran
waterslide transfer paper and baked them on in the oven. Took a
while but I'm quite pleased with the way it turned out, the P3 is a
great sequencer and so EASY to use:-)

The two rows of LEDs are there because you can't get tricolour LEDs in 3mm.
So possibly not as easy to follow as red/green/amber.

If you look up toyolite, they make some cool red/blue/purple
tricolour LEDs - which I used on my arpeggiator module.

cheers

Thanks for all of the kind comments on my P3 :-)

Switches are from Rapid, 12mm tact switches with black square
covers. They feel really nice and positive in use and they will also
fit the standard P3 pcb. The engraved switches are a maplin part
(obviously supplied unengraved!) and need some mods to standard pcb
to fit. I'm out of the country ATM so I don't have part numbers,
send them when I get back.

Two rows of led's were chosen because I couldn't get 3mm tri colour
blue led's, I got hold of some but they were wrong polarity and
needed either a software revision or some hardware mods to work. I
could have used 5mm tricolour or rainbow blue(I even made a panel up
specially for them), but I tried two rows of 3mm blue & yellow and
really liked the result. BTW two rows of led's require a new double
sided pcb to be made, I have pcb gerbers if anyone wants to go this
route.

cheers,
Allan
