The 4U Rack-Panel

The 4U Rack-Panel

2003-09-10 by Stoffel

Hi Colin,

I'd like to use the 4U Rack Mount Panel, and I have a question. The M4
Holes (three on top, and three on bottom) are for mounting a whatsoever
case. Or are they used for mounting any of the PCBS? And why is the middle
M4 Hole on the bottom not in a horizontal line with the left and right
hole, like the holes on top?
And I'm thinking about putting a name on it, like "Colin Fraser's P3", or
something like that, what would you prefer?

Best regards,
Stoffel

They are just for mounting an imaginary rear enclosure I still haven't
made yet.
This week I'm pulling down a wall, re-decorating and installing a new
kitchen, so it might be a while yet.

No.
The pot PCBs are held on by their nuts. (call me immature, but I still
find that funny)
The LED/step switch board is held on by 6 M3 screws, the keypad by 4 M3
screws, the function switch by 2 M3 screws, and the LCD display by
another 4 M3 screws - assuming you widen the holes on your LCD module
from the M2.5 they come with. I could never find M2.5 screws.

The rough design for the rear enclosure I did has the side mounting
screws bolting into the side panels, and the middle screws bolting into
the front and rear panels. The front panel needed to be far enough
forward to clear the data/tempo pots, so the mount for it had to be
further forward. I really need to get this case business sorted out soon
!

How about 'Stoffel's P3' ? ;-)

Cheers,

its funnier when you say "The knobs are held on by their nuts"
(sorry couldn't resist)
