P3 Acting Strange ?

P3 Acting Strange ?

2005-05-03 by analog1k

My P3 is acting strange i think?

When I have a sequence running and then when i change
last step within that sequence, my P3 begins to stutter.
Sometimes the 1st or 2nd note gets stuck for a brief moment.
Is it the P3 or my sound module not accepting midi information
quick enough?

Is this a fault with my machine?

Sometimes it's meant to...

It doesn't sound like a fault, unless it's sticking on the step for several
steps.
Does it just repeat twice ?
If you have the 'chg' mode for the pattern set to B (this is in the
playlist), the pattern reset is synchronised with the global bar.
In some cases this might mean that the pattern resets after the first or
second step just after you change the length.
For example, a pattern of length 15, synced to a global bar of default
length 16, will always appear to play the first step twice - it resets every
16 notes, which means the 15 of its length, plus 1 repeat of the first note.

I've got an entry on the TBI list to improve 'last step' selection.
At the moment, reset occurs as soon as the current pattern step is higher
than the last step.
This can cause you to lose the relative position of a pattern to the other
tracks where you might expect it to stay in sync.
For example, if you have a pattern with last step set to 16, and you change
it to step 8, if the current position is after step 8, it will reset
immediately.
If the current position when you select a new last step was, for example,
13, then the pattern will reset as if 13 were the last step.
The change I'm going to make will use a temporary variable to hold changes
of last step until the next time the pattern resets.
